On the afternoon of February 19, 2025, the Insta360-Nanjing University Exchange Meeting was successfully held in Conference Room 124, West District of Nanyong Building. The experts attending the meeting included: Chen Jinyao, Co-founder of Insta360, Jiang Wenjie, Guo Yibin, Co-founder of Technology of Insta360, Qi Lu, R&D Director at Insta360 AI, and Jia Peiyang, Manager of the Insta360 Research Institute.
The meeting was attended by Zhou Jianfeng, Vice President of the Institute of Science and Technology at Nanjing University, Wang Yao, Project Director of the Proof of Concept Center, Zhu Hao, Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) at the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Chen Tong, Associate Researcher at the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Yao Yao, Assistant Dean of the School of Intelligence Science and Technology, Yi Zili, Tai Ying, Zhang Zhenyu, Zhang Kai, Associate Professors at the same institute, and Sha Li from the Institute of Science and Technology. The meeting was chaired by Yao Yao.
At the beginning of the meeting, Zhou Jianfeng expressed his gratitude to Insta360, an alumni enterprise, for returning to the alma mater to engage in exchange and cooperation during its subsequent development. He also expressed his hope that both sides, through this meet, would collaboratively address key challenges and ultimately achieve a mutually beneficial cooperation.
Chen Jinyao noted that most of the Insta360 members present at the meeting were alumni of Nanjing University. He then provided an overview of the company. He highlighted that, over the years, Insta360 has developed into one of the world’s leading imaging brands. Each of Nanjing University’s faculties boasts a strong research foundation and academic excellence. It is hoped that Insta360 and Nanjing University can strike a balance between the development of imaging technologies and academic research, while fostering friendly collaboration in areas such as talent cultivation, academic program expansion, faculty recruitment, and the establishment of student training facilities.
Subsequently, Jia Peiyang specifically introduced the Insta360 product business, he mentioned that Insta360 has been committed to the research and development of cameras, photography and conference equipment and other products since its establishment, and its products have been exported to more than 200 regions, and it has also cooperated with Leica in Germany. Insta360’s professional-grade products are widely applied across various industries globally. He further expressed his hope that the research from different faculties would be integrated with the company’s current product development efforts.
Yao Yao gave a brief overview of the development of the Suzhou campus and provided a comprehensive description of the School of Intelligence Science and Technology, covering areas such as disciplinary foundation, orientation, directions, teaching faculty, talent cultivation, research platform development, and academic exchange. He mentioned that the school has been continuously introducing young talents since its establishment and now boasts a strong teaching force. The school’s disciplinary directions are diverse, with corresponding talents in each area. He also noted that the college has laid a foundation for enterprise cooperation and has already established a joint research institute in collaboration with China Mobile. He expressed his anticipation for further cooperation with Insta360 in the future.
Chen Tong, from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, introduced the research on intelligent video communication in their laboratory, focusing on aspects such as program imaging, coding, and transmission. Faculty members from our school also presented their research directions and ongoing projects. During the presentations, Insta360 members engaged in discussions with our teachers regarding technical cooperation.
After the presentations, both parties continued their in-depth discussions on talent cultivation, recruitment, and the establishment of student training bases. Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining close communication and exploring further opportunities for collaboration.
