On the morning of July 22nd at 10 o'clock, Professor Wang Beibei from our university invited Professor Yan Lingqi from the University of California, Santa Barbara to give an academic lecture titled Open Problems in Realistic

Rendering Research.

Abstract: In this report, I will briefly summarize my work in the field of realistic rendering in recent years, including traditional projects such as ray propagation and appearance modeling, as well as some explorations of

neural network solutions. Afterwards, I will mainly talk about my understanding of the open issues in rendering related research, from the difficulties I have encountered all along to the directions that urgently need to be

overcome. Finally, I will discuss with everyone possible future ideas and solutions.

Reported by:

Dr. Yan Lingqi, an assistant professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, received a bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University in 2013 and a doctoral degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018.

His main research direction is physics based realistic graphic rendering and its related mathematical and physical theories, including realistic material observation and modeling, offline and real-time ray tracing, signal

sampling and reconstruction, efficient ray propagation and scattering, and so on.
