On September 10th, the school, in collaboration with the Psychology Studio of Nanjing University Suzhou Campus, held a group counseling session on adaptability and interpersonal communication for the new students of the School of Intelligence Science and Technology in the Renyuan one-stop student community, adding a touch of color to their initial encounter and giving warmth and care to their future learning and life. This group counseling session is divided into three sessions, with a total of 44 students participating, including 14 doctoral students and 30 master students. After participating in group tutoring, most students expressed greater expectations and a sense of belonging towards their study and life at the Suzhou campus.
Under the leadership of Guo Ruijun, the dedicated mental health teacher at the campus, and Liu Haohan, the counselor at the School of Intelligence Science and Technology, this group counseling aimed to address the psychological demands of new students who were not yet familiar with each other and were curious about the campus and their majors. The group focused on breaking the ice, establishing interpersonal relationships, seeking interpersonal support, and coping with real life. Through a series of clever interactions, games, and sharing, warmth was conveyed through members' free expression and mutual communication, which not only melted the sense of unfamiliarity of the group, but also gained excitement and expectations.
The warm-up stage at the beginning of the group uses some ice breaking games to stimulate the atmosphere and make the body move. This is a good opportunity to establish basic understanding and let go of guard. Everyone can speak freely and express themselves freely, and the budding of friendship is quietly born. The snowball rolling segment opens up the side by side combat mode through grouping, allowing everyone to have a deeper impression of their classmates in the group and find like-minded friends.
Upon entering the Suzhou campus for the first time, the teachers set up a game called Five Greats in Suzhou Campus during the formal session. Each student was asked to share their thoughts, whether they were confused or satisfied. Each sentence received positive empathy and feedback in the group, inspiring students to think about their current state through natural processes, answering questions, and self exploration. In the final stage of passing on blessings, teachers ask everyone to write their beautiful wishes to the group members on postcards, exchange emotions through anonymous transmission, and add healing effects. The most valuable part is the feedback section at the end, where most students are willing to actively and sincerely express their true feelings after 90 minutes of open interaction and expression, contributing positive energy to the group's summary. Simple words like 'excited', 'happy', 'excited', 'thank you' contain special power that brings people's hearts closer together.
Group counseling is a way for us to build interpersonal support, gain positive recognition, and care for mental health. It is a collision between people and between hearts. In the future, the school will continue to collaborate with the Psychology Studio of Nanjing University Suzhou Campus to carry out relevant psychological activities, painting diverse colors for the school life of students in Suzhou, and guarding everyone to walk towards their hearts.
