To help junior students better understand the recommendation process and plan their development path, the counselor office of the School of Intelligence Science and Technology has invited the student engineering team of the School of Computer Science and Technology and senior undergraduate students to hold an experience sharing session on October 28th for the 2022 and 2023 undergraduate students of the school, focusing on topics such as recommendation programs and competitions. This event invites Gong Linglin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Computer Science, counselors Fu Zhong and Li Qifang, part-time counselor Liu Boshi for 2021 undergraduate students, Lin Lang (top class), Zhu Zhicong, and Huang Junrong (top class) for relevant interpretations and sharing. The event is hosted by counselor Liu Haohan from the School of Intelligence Science and Technology.
Gong Linglin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Computer Science, first introduced the employment situation of the School of Computer Science in the past three years, and introduced the relevant measures of the School and the school as a whole in employment services. From the perspective of the development process and related achievements of the discipline, she explained the competitiveness of Nanjing University in the field of computer science, and strengthened the confidence of students to actively strive for progress.
Liu Boshi provided a detailed explanation of the recommendation policy for everyone, covering two main parts: an explanation of the recommendation policy and personal experience sharing. In the section on recommendation policies, he introduced the methods for obtaining recommendation qualifications, the detailed rules for calculating recommended credits and grades, as well as the national and school requirements for recommendation. He specifically reminded students that the exemption policy is adjusted every year and they should pay attention to the policies and important time points of the year. Subsequently, he shared practical advice on document preparation and time management based on his experience in promoting exemption from graduate school recommendation at the School of Computer Science.
Zhu Zhicong shared his experience of participating in summer camps and pre admission programs at multiple universities. He provided a detailed introduction to the specific processes of the School of Computer Science and the School of Intelligence Science and Technology at Nanjing University, including online and computer-based exams, as well as offline interviews. He suggested that everyone should focus on accumulating experience, improving their response and presentation abilities during the interview, and proposed coping strategies for possible difficulties in the written test and interview. Finally, he encouraged his classmates to maintain a positive attitude and strive for a smooth landing.
Huang Junrong shared his experience in applying for graduate programs at multiple foreign schools. He first briefly introduced his personal background, mainly academic achievements and competition experience. Subsequently, he elaborated on the summer camps and pre admission processes for computer science departments at universities such as Fudan, Shanghai Jiao Tong, Tsinghua, and Peking University, based on his own experience. He also provided suggestions on interview preparation, written test strategies, and shared his experience in resume writing and mentor selection. At the same time, he also emphasized the assessment focus and difficulty of different schools, and suggested that everyone choose the school that suits them according to their interests and abilities. Finally, he hopes that everyone will take action during the preparation process, reduce internal friction, and face future challenges with a more confident attitude.
Lin Lang shared his competition experience from three aspects: familiar competitions, suggestions for the competition of the 22nd grade Suzhou students, and later arrangements. He provided a detailed introduction to the grading system of ACM programming competitions and their value in graduate recommendation and resume bonus points. In addition, he also introduced the value and job advantages of competitions such as ICPC, Blue Bridge Cup, and Loongson Cup. For junior students, he suggests that everyone focus on targeted assault competitions, make good plans and execute them firmly, and take into account academic and research content while training and competing.
After the four students shared their thoughts, the students present enthusiastically asked questions, covering topics such as summer camp preparation methods, the latest developments in engineering master's and doctoral programs, and suggestions for studying abroad for doctoral degrees. All four students provided detailed answers to each of them.
The successful holding of this experience sharing session on recommendation for postgraduate studies is not only a cross disciplinary exchange between the School of Computer Science and the School of Intelligence Science and Technology, but also provides valuable recommendation experience and guidance for the first batch of students at the Suzhou campus. I believe many confused students have their own answers and directions in their hearts. Wishing everyone to never forget their original intention, forge ahead, and receive exciting offers in the golden autumn of next year!
